Every year since 1918, on the 11th minute of the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11thmonth, we celebrate Remembrance Day. This Saturday we acknowledge the exact time some 99 years ago when an armistice was signed between the German and Allied Forces that brought an end to World War I.
On Remembrance Day we remember the sacrifices of all those who died in World War I and in subsequent conflicts. We pray for the families, give thanks for the sacrifices made, and hope that such a war will never happen again. We also pray for peace, justice and compassion for the troubled world and for all nations and their leaders that we may live together and seek the common good.
As part of our own commemorations for Remembrance Day, the students at Junior School Kew have been working for the last few months to handcraft the beautiful poppies seen in the photo above.
