Greg Spence’s visit to Carey
On Tuesday 5 March a number of our senior students had the opportunity to work with trumpet master Greg Spence. Greg’s considerable professional experience includes tours with Hugh Jackman and Tim Minchin as well as numerous theatre, television and recording engagements. This experience, along with his infectious enthusiasm, was brought to bear when working with our soloists and ensembles. Our students are fortunate indeed to have these experiences during their formative musical years.

Upcoming camps and tours
Carey’s annual trip to Generations in Jazz will take place from Friday 3 May to Sunday 5 May. This year we have 58 students going from four different ensembles including Big Band, Stage Band, Conchords (formerly A Cappella) and a small jazz combo.

Shortly after this trip, on Saturday 18 May to Monday 20 May, Vivaldi Strings, Inter Strings, Orpheus Choir and Symphonic Band will travel to Blampied for the annual Autumn Music Camp. This intensive rehearsal camp allows these ensembles to develop repertoire and ensemble skills in a way that isn’t possible during regular weekly rehearsals.

In addition to these musical outcomes, camps and tours bring musicians together, allowing them to share the joy of music making while developing lasting relationships outside the classroom. We ask all musicians involved in these groups to participate in the camps because the benefit for the individual, as well as the ensemble, cannot be overstated.

Consent and medical forms for Generations in Jazz and the Autumn Music Camp will arrive home shortly, and we ask families to return these to the music office as soon as possible.

Additionally, Carey’s music tour to China takes place this September and one final student place remains available. Interested students in Year 9, 10 or 11 are encouraged to contact Jason Digby in the music department.
