The most enthusiastic Mr Miles Jackson (former Carey parent and CEO of Cole Clark Guitars) welcomed 26 Year 12 Product Design and Technology students to a place where the most extraordinary all-Australian guitars are made. Accompanying the tour strolled a friendly and unassuming man named Lloyd.

Thanks to Miles, students were able to interact and be enthralled by the processes in which these world-class guitars are being made. The students journeyed amongst the reclaimed timbers collected from parks and gardens throughout Victoria to make the beautiful instruments. Lloyd dutifully following and willingly answering questions.

Up the gangway and Miles introduced us to an extraordinary man, whose identity will remain secret as he is currently working in the research and development department, inventing a patented part that will revolutionise the guitar industry. Meanwhile, Lloyd waited patiently for the group to reassemble below.

On the ground floor, the students listened intently to Miles tell stories of famous musicians and artists, including Taylor Swift, who have become acquainted with Cole Clark’s beautifully crafted guitars. With Miles, the students moved through the factory viewing construction methods, being introduced to section personnel, and understanding the guitars production processes. Lloyd kindly moved within the group offering his knowledge and answering more questions.

To conclude the hour-long tour with Miles, the students were formally introduced and humbled by this inconspicuous Lloyd who followed our tour from the beginning. At this moment, it was revealed that throughout our tour, we had been in the presence of one of Australia’s best blues musicians, Mr Lloyd Spiegel. He kindly played for us and we were astounded by his virtuosity and command of the instrument.

The excursion ended with much approval and applause from the students and staff. Bravo to Cole Clark Guitars.
