Ed Richards drafted to the Western Bulldogs
Year 12 leaver, and Vice-Captain of this year’s First XVIII, Ed Richards was drafted to the Western Bulldogs on Friday 24 November with pick 16 in the AFL Draft. Ed now has the chance to follow his lifelong dream of playing football in the AFL, and is delighted to be heading to the 2016 Premiers and staying in Melbourne with family and friends.
Ed debuted for the First XVIII as a Year 10 student against Melbourne Grammar, and has always had the natural football talent and was seen throwing his body on the line time and time again throughout his younger years at Carey, despite a small physical stature at that time. Ed had a terrific season for the First XVIII in 2017, leading the team with his run and dash off half-back, and showing great decision making under pressure. He finished second in the best and fairest and was instrumental in the strong season where the team finished with nine wins and one loss (2nd overall).
All within the Carey community will be watching with interest to see how Ed gets on in the coming years at ‘The Kennel’.
