Our Year 9 students were fortunate to hear from Rev Tim Costello in the William Carey Chapel on Wednesday 22 June as part of their Civics and Citizenship Week. As the current CEO of World Vision Australia, Tim had plenty to share with the students after being asked to speak on the topic of ‘How to be civic minded’.

Tim spoke broadly of his experience working in a variety of fields – from studying Law at Monash University straight after finishing secondary school, to working with the underprivileged both here in Melbourne and abroad, to his most recent work with World Vision. In sharing his story, Tim emphasised the need for people to answer their calling in life, and to look beyond the modern preoccupation with material wealth and possessions.

The Costello family has had a long and close association with Carey. Tim’s father Russell Costello was a teacher here for 32 years, and Tim and his brother Peter were students from Years 6 to 12. We thank Tim for sharing his story with the Year 9 students.
