More than just another Open Morning

We take great pride in our beautiful school, and having the opportunity to show the community what a typical day at Carey is like is a great privilege.
With our August Open Mornings coming up over the next few weeks, we sat down with Astrid Saldukas, Carey’s Admissions Manager, to get an idea of what guests can expect from these fantastic events.

Hi Astrid. Can you tell us what happens at Carey Open Mornings?

Astrid: At Carey, we have two sets of Open Mornings every year. Across three days in March and August, we showcase our Donvale campus, Junior School Kew and our Middle and Senior School. It’s a fantastic way to see the School in action on a typical day, and guests are taken on tours of the School by current students across different year levels. This gives prospective families the opportunity to ask questions about what it’s like for students who attend Carey. We also have current Carey parents who attend and talk about their experience of being a parent at the School. Our Principal, Philip Grutzner will be addressing attendees, and teachers will be around to answer any questions about the Carey experience as well.

What is usually a highlight of the mornings?

Astrid: At our Kew campus, we always have musical performances. In the Junior School, you’ll be able to see our Year 4 choir, Bumblebee, who have been practising a piece to perform to our guests. At the Middle and Senior School Open Mornings, we take the opportunity to celebrate our fantastic musicals. There will be a short performance from our 2019 Senior School musical, Monty Python’s Spamalot.

That sounds exciting! Who is welcome to attend the Open Mornings?

Astrid: Everyone! Members of the Carey community are welcome, including prospective families and current families. Our Open Mornings are open to all members of the public as well. We encourage everyone interested in coming along to a Carey Open Morning to register through our website.

And what do you think makes Carey Open Mornings special?

Astrid: There is such a great buzz at our Open Mornings. The atmosphere is exciting and positive. There’s lots happening, and it’s a great opportunity for people to get together and learn about Carey. The staff and parent volunteers are always so friendly, and the student tours are a favourite amongst our guests. It’s definitely a great experience.
