‘The true beauty of music is that it connects people. It carries a message, and we, the musicians, are the messengers.’
– Roy Ayers
How wonderful it is to see so many of our students involved, engrossed, enthusiastically and actively participating in our co-curricular program at Junior School Kew! Beyond the smiling faces greeting me early each morning; beyond even the discipline and sheer hard work of being a member of an ensemble, is the connectedness as a growing community of musicians that is created through our music-making. One of our Carey Attributes is of course, ‘Connectedness’. As the quote above so pertinently states, not only do we as musicians form bonds, create stories, inter-connect with one another in such a wonderful shared pursuit – but we invite others to also join in the greater story and broader conversation as to what is said through our Art.
As we head into a term that is full of rehearsals in preparation for major performances and events, let it be that we see the bigger picture of our shared community and celebrate together moments of great music and what is being said.
