That’s the attitude we are adopting! Considering the unsettled time we are living in, it is reassuring to see how the School community is pushing on with preparations for our Seussical Jr production.

The teachers are assembling costumes; around campus you see colourful outfits hanging from clothes racks and railings. Clowns, iridescent fish, white coated doctors, circus animals, cheeky monkeys, hunters and a community of ‘Whos’: all costumes are being collected, constructed or refined. Props, backdrops and scenery are being carefully prepared by the staff in readiness (thank you Kylie Crampton and Kathryn Zammit for your organisation). Leads are blocking, spending time going over the script and rehearsing their songs. Individual year levels are going over movements, dances and songs to bring their scene alive. Even in lockdown, the rehearsing continues through conferences and videos.

We are considering many options regarding our actual performances, but so much depends on the regulations that are in place at the time. If the students are onsite (and depending on whether we are permitted to attend the Kew campus) we will be filming the performance, hopefully with a live audience. However, having reached our 6th or 7th plan, what will be in place at the time in relation to the Department of Education regulations will determine what we are able to do.

A big thank you must go to Tania Schlemitz-Justin, Susan Loucas, Lisa Callaghan and Alicia Bendall for pushing on and rehearsing the students in ever creative ways. Thank you also to the teachers who continue to encourage their students while at home to engage not only in their class work but also in the rehearsals for their item and the finale. And finally, a big thank you to you, the families, for your support during these trying times.
