Our silver swimmer Jess Hansen (2013)

Old Carey Grammarian Jess Hansen (2013) recently returned from the FINA Swimming World Championships in South Korea as a silver medallist in the 4x100 Medley Relay.

This completes an impressive set of results for Jess over recent years. It follows her gold medal at the 2018 Pacific Games in Japan in the same event, and the silver medal in Japan in the individual breaststroke. A finalist in the breaststroke at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Jess has started her campaign for the 2020 Olympics with her next key date the Olympic trials in 10 months. At the same time, Jess is finishing up a double degree of a Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Science and Bachelor of Business Management.

As a prominent student leader during her time at Carey, it is not surprising to see Jess assuming a role as the athlete representative on the current Australian Swimming Team. It is a role that sees her responsible for decision making with both the Australian Head Coach and High Performance Management Team, organising and upholding the rituals of the team, and providing some direction for social outlets while the team is on tour.

We look forward to watching Jess as she builds towards an Olympic year.
