An opportunity to represent Carey

Whilst COVID-19 has resulted in a range of challenges at Carey, it has also revealed some significant positive discoveries for student learning. The Carey Board actively supports our School Leadership Team and staff in their considerable efforts to deliver the best education possible through this time. Students, families, staff and alumni have truly benefitted from the strength and unity of the Carey community.

COVID-19 has generated immense challenges for all schools, communities and nations this year. The rapid and ongoing evolution of our offsite, online learning platforms has required agility, creativity, enormous amounts of hard work and careful planning by school staff, leadership and all Carey families as we experienced the first and second lockdowns in Melbourne.

Additionally, a broad range of compliance, risk management and financial considerations has meant close communication between our Principal, School Leadership Team and Board has become more frequent. I have been grateful for the commitment and the skills, experience and expertise in our School Leadership Team, Board and Board subcommittees as we navigate this period together.

In order to support our governance responsibilities, the Board and its subcommittees seek a diverse range of skilled members representative of Carey’s community. It is important to ensure we are represented by broad perspectives and significant expertise, while maintaining the history, shared values and culture which make Carey unique. The Board works closely with the Principal throughout the year to ensure the School is run smoothly, the Carey community remains strong and our school’s strategic directions are supported and maintained.

We are currently in the process of reviewing expressions of interest to join the Carey Board or one of its subcommittees. Board subcommittee membership can be an excellent pathway towards Board membership and specific skills and expertise are highly valued, for example on the Finance, Advancement or Property Committees.

If you are interested in learning more about the opportunities to join the Carey Board or Board subcommittees, I encourage you to read the Invitation from the Chair and consider submitting your expression of interest.

My most sincere good wishes to the whole Carey community as we continue to navigate the challenges of 2020 together.

Jane Simon
Chair of the Carey Board
