Year 6 Canberra Visit
In the last week of October, the Year 6 students from our Kew Junior School headed to Canberra for an exciting educational tour of our nation’s capital. Over the course of the week, the students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.
The students visited the Old and New Parliament Houses, the residence of the Governor General, the National Portrait Gallery, the Australian Institute of Sport, the Deep Space Centre at Tidbinbilla, the National Gallery, the High Court and have even had some time for a little bit of rock climbing at an indoor climbing centre.
A camp such as this one serves as an effective learning opportunity for the children as it reinforces many aspects of the classroom History curriculum. The students also learn about themselves and what it is like to be away from home. Many of our students have not been away interstate from their families. Our thanks to the staff for spending time away from their own families for the week. We thank the children for representing the School and themselves with such distinction.
