There were plenty of Harry Potters, Hermiones, Matildas and Terry Dentons walking around the Junior School for the 2018 Book Week theme of ‘Finding Your Treasure’.  The dress up day is always highly anticipated with everyone having a lot of fun sharing their favourite book characters.

In the lead up to Book Week, students from ELC to Year 6 have been casting their critical eye over the various shortlists for the 2018 CBCA Book Awards. The Early Childhood category was a favourite, with Second Sky, a beautiful tale about a baby penguin with big dreams, taking out the Carey Choice Award. Mopoke and Do Not Lick This Book were clear favourites in the Picture Book and Information Book categories. Not all of these aligned with the CBCA’s selections!

All throughout Book Week, the Library was abuzz during lessons and lunchtimes with book readings, discussions about the judges’ decisions and of course, in keeping with the theme, treasure hunts!

The reading fun continued into this week with two excursions to the Melbourne Writers Festival. On Monday, a small group of Year 6s were inspired by Mantra, one of Australia’s best hip hop artists, and on Wednesday, a group of students in Years 3, 4 and 5 were fortunate to listen to stories from two Indigenous storytellers.
