Class of 2019 Results

Carey is proud to share our 2019 Year 12 results.

We celebrate the success of all Carey students. We are equally proud of the many who excelled academically, and those who did their personal best often overcoming illness, learning difficulties or personal hardships. Carey students are encouraged to be positive citizens and contributors to our school and the broader community, and we anticipate they will continue to create positive change in their lives beyond Carey. 

The Year 12 Class of 2019 achieved excellent academic results:

  • 20 per cent of ATARs were above 95 (in the top 5 per cent of Australia)
  • 33 per cent of all ATARs were above 90 (in the top 10 per cent of Australia)
  • 11 students from IB and VCE programs obtained ATARs of 99 or above
  • The Carey median ATAR is 82
  • Our IB average score of 35.9 out of a possible 45 (translates to an ATAR of 92.2) is well above the worldwide average score of 28.5 out of a possible 45.
  • There were nine study scores of 50 in the VCE.

The 2019 Duces of Carey are Eugene Wang who studied VCE and achieved an ATAR of 99.95, and Hamish Payne and Jonathan Zheng who both achieved an IB score of 45 which also translates to an ATAR of 99.95.

Nine other students obtained an ATAR of 99 or above and join our duces as Carey Scholars. We sincerely congratulate them all.

These results reflect the commitment and perseverance of our students over many years at Carey. In partnership with our parents, our sincere thanks go to our outstanding team of teaching and professional staff for their expertise, dedication and support of our students, not just at the Year 12 level, but throughout each student’s entire Carey journey. We know our students, staff and parents are committed to enabling each student to achieve their best. There is enormous pride in student achievement that is a result of collaboration, resilience and focus.

Based on our strong academic results and record, we anticipate the majority of our 2019 cohort will go onto tertiary studies, with over half getting their first preference and 90 per cent getting one of their first three preferences. It is an affirmation of the culture at Carey that they will continue their journey as lifelong learners. We know their pursuit of academic learning will continue to be important, but their future happiness will be more greatly determined by their values, work ethic and the quality of their relationships.

At Carey, we remain steadfastly committed to our open enrolment policy. From the VCE to the IB and from VET to Distance Education, the suite of curriculum offerings enables our students to explore their interests, develop a pathway and pursue their passion. We are proud of the way our Year 12 class have embraced opportunities and extended themselves, not only academically but through co-curricular and social justice pursuits. Through our Positive Learning Model, we support our students to leverage their strengths and follow their passions, as many of our students are extraordinary athletes, artists, performers, innovators, creative thinkers and social justice advocates. We recognise that our students are more than the sum of their academic results and are confident they enter the next stage of their lives well prepared to take on challenges with courage, compassion and curiosity.
