LOTE - Year 7 LOTE: Semester 1

Chinese: Semester 2

Unit description

The course is based on the text Ni Hao 1. Students will:

  • Develop an understanding of Chinese characters, and learn to read and write Chinese using them
  • Learn to speak Chinese and perform simple dialogues, and understand Chinese when it is spoken to them
  • Learn how to describe everyday objects, how to describe their family and their pets
  • Develop skills through a wide range of activities including role-play, language games, videos, writing tasks and computer assisted tasks.
     

The course also has a cultural component where students study aspects of Chinese culture relevant to the topics.

Assessment

  • Unit test - vocabulary, reading and grammar
  • A variety of written and oral tasks
  • Research projects 

 

French: Semester 2

Unit description

The useful everyday topics of days, months and alphabet are introduced. In this unit, students:

  • Learn about significant dates on the French calendar
  • Are introduced to simple 'er'  verbs, question forms and more imperatives which they use in guided writing tasks and short dialogues about likes and dislikes
  • Learn to use the numbers up to 100 and to tell the time
  • Talk about their families, friends and pets

Advanced French: Semester 2

Unit description

In this unit, students:

  • Learn about significant dates on the French calendar
  • Are introduced to simple 'er' verbs, question forms and more imperatives which they use in guided writing tasks and short dialogues about likes and dislikes
  • Learn to use the numbers up to 100 and to tell the time
  • Talk about their families, friends and pets
  • Are expected to accurately use a range of  'er' verbs, question forms and imperatives and use these in guided writing tasks and dialogues about likes and dislikes

German: Semester 2

Unit description

As students become more confident in their use of German, the topics and structures covered in the German course are expanded. They are able to:

  • Describe their hobbies, sports and interests
  • Describe family members and use the numbers up to 100 
  • Tell the time
  • Explore German Christmas customs

The grammar structures available to students will start to increase in complexity, yet follow patterns that are relatively easy to use. Understanding and application of simple irregular verbs will be expanded, and some prepositions and idiomatic expressions will be introduced.

  • Unit tests including grammar awareness and ability to use simple structures
  • Homework tasks including assignment work

 

Indonesian: Semester 2

Unit description

The range of topics is broadened to include:

  • Telling the time and days of the week
  • School life including timetables and classroom objects
  • Asking for and stating prices in 100s and 1000s.

Students thereby learn to talk and write about their school life and other daily activities.

The formal study of grammar, which enables students to manipulate the language for their own use, is continued in this unit and includes the negators tidak, bukan and -kan, and the use of yang.
