Unit description

This unit challenges the student to examine an environment and create a product to enhance it. This includes following a sequence of design, which allows the student to communicate and plan ideas, estimate quantities and costs and analyse a range of timbers.

In this unit students will explore the following essential questions:

• What is the role of the product development process?
• What is the relationship between designer and client?
• How do the characteristics and properties of wood influence my design?
• Why do we evaluate our production work on completion?

Assessment

The three components of the Technology Process are assessed:

• Investigating and designing: the production of a portfolio, which plans the manufacture of a product
• Production: a finished product that applies joinery, fixtures and finishes
• Analysing and evaluating: a synopsis of initial ideas against a final outcome.
