Drawing
Extension: Specialisation Unit
|
Special Note: This unit provides students with an opportunity to build upon the skills and understanding they will have developed whilst studying core units within the Art and Design program. It is assumed that this unit will be selected only by those students:
- with a keen interest and motivation to work at a high level in Art and Design
- with an established record of achievement
- who intend to study Art or Visual Communication in later years.
|
The focus of this unit is to heighten each student's drawing and observational skills through the completion of a series of drawings using the following media: pencil, pen and ink, oil pastel, soft pastel, charcoal conte and scraperboard.
Students will work from observation and imagination, using realistic and non-representational imagery. Aspects of drawing traditions are studied in association with practical exercises, while the concepts of line, colour, tone, composition, shape, movement, pattern and balance are explored.
In this unit students will explore the following essential questions:
- How do we organise art elements and design principles to achieve certain effects in our drawing?
- Why do artists draw and why study their drawings?
- What influences our artistic expression?
