Middle School Music Tour

Each year the Middle School runs a four day music performance tour over the Melbourne Cup weekend in November.

The tour invites students who are willing to make a contribution in addition to their skills in singing and playing an instrument. Students can contribute to the production in areas such as acting, dancing, producing, audio, logistics, publicity, costumes, scripts and sets.

The Middle School has developed a tradition of entertaining original touring shows. Recent tours include the following:

  • 2009 Tales from Tullagaroo - an entertaining, theatrical and musical tour of a unique country town depicted through 10 humorous colourful and wildly inaccurate stories.
  • 2008 River Story - a very topical history of man's management of the River Murray that toured the Echuca area;
  • 2007 The 1957 Annual Mudgegonga Variety Gala spectacular - a traditional variety show 'Tivoli' style which toured the Beechworth area;
  • 2006 Larrikans and Legends - an exploration of some of the legendary characters of Australian History through ballad and song which toured the Castlemaine area;
  • 2005 Swing, Swing, Swing! - a toe tapping exploration of the great jazz era in Australia that toured the Beechworth area;
  • 2004 The Great River Boat Race toured the Echuca area.

Senior Music Groups Tour

Members of Senior Music Groups have the opportunity to tour either nationally, or internationally. The touring program aids students in better understanding that music is a shared international language. In this international forum, music as an expression encourages higher levels of thinking and evaluation.

During preparation, students' skills and team work develop as they understand more about how to achieve high performance standards. While on tour, students will learn how to sustain these standards by managing their energy through healthy diet and living habits. The tour also aids preparation for Semester 2 events such as:

  • School concerts;
  • Speech Night;
  • Melbourne Schools Band Festival;
  • String Festival;
  • Royal South Street Competition.

Recent tour destinations have included Canberra, Adelaide, New Zealand and China. Expressions of interest from students are sought during Term 3 for travel the following year. Students who arrive at Carey in Term 1 are most welcome, and encouraged, to join the tour. It is a wonderful way to meet people, mix with like-minded people with similar interests and a great way to make new friends.

The tour welcomes orchestral strings, woodwind, brass, percussion, guitar, vocalists, public speakers and students whose interests lie in music technology and PA equipment.

Outside offers of sponsorship are most welcome.
