Jazz Bands
In Middle School there are two Jazz bands - Goodman and Ellington. In Senior School there is the Stage and Show Bands. Both Middle School bands are for saxophone of different sizes, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, electric and double bass, guitar, keyboard, piano, drum kit, percussion players and at times solo vocalists.
The Goodman Jazz Band
This group is for less experienced students. Some works played include Night Vision by Ralph Ford and BJ's Diner by Tim Fisher.
The Ellington Jazz Orchestra
This group is the more advanced of the two Middle School Jazz ensembles. The group has performed the following works: Grooved Pavement by Victor Lopez and Jive Cat Jump by Larry Neeck.
Musicians from any level in Middle School may audition for a position in one of these ensembles. Each band consists of about 20 students and rehearses during Wednesday lunchtime. There is also a music camp, usually held in April.
The bands perform regularly throughout the year at assemblies, Middle School and whole School concerts and at the Melbourne Schools Band Festival.
