Concert Strings
The Middle School Concert Strings is a string orchestra for advanced and experience orchestral players in Middle School. Student play violin, viola, cello or double bass. It is open to any Year 7, 8 or 9 student who is interested and at the appropriate technical standard.
The group rehearses one afternoon a week and there is a rehearsal camp usually held in April. Classical through to popular and jazz pieces are performed at key School events throughout the year, such as:
- Easter Service;
- Autumn Concert;
- Middle School Assemblies;
- Winter Concert;
- Christmas Service.
The group also performs at local music eisteddfods.
Some works performed by this group in recent years include:
- Sunward Overture by Holfedt;
- Plink Plank Plunk by L. Anderson;
- Rakotszy March by Liszt;
- Dance Characteristique by Rebikov;
- Rondeau from Baroque Suite by Mouret;
- Theme from ET by Williams/Del Borgo;
- Artic Fire by Chin.
Advanced students are encouraged to also join chamber music groups.
