Senior School Co-curricular Music Groups (Years 10 - 12) Stage Band and Show BandIn Senior School there are two contemporary bands - the Stage and Shows Bands. Other groups form according to student interests. Stage BandThis group has lead players and section players and plays a wide range of jazz styles and some rock. It performs at the Advanced Jazz Ensemble level in the Melbourne School Bands Festival. The music is exciting and energetic. Places in the Band are limited to two alto, two tenor and one baritone saxophones, four trumpets, three trombones, electric bass, electric guitar, piano, drum kit and percussion. Some of the works performed in recent years include All's Well in Wellington by Cunliffe, The Chicken by Ellis arr. Berg, Esperanto by Beach, Bedtime in Storyville by Archard. The ability to play in jazz styles is taught. In extending students further, the rehearsals build on the blues and use a wider range of scale forms and chord progressions laying the foundations for more varied and stylistic improvisations.
