Design and Technology: Further Fashion

Semester 2: Elective Unit

Prerequisites

This unit is for students who have already completed Fabulous Fashion @ 8 and are competent with basic sewing skills and their applications. This means that students who wish to study this unit should also nominate Fabulous Fashion @ 8 on their Subject Selection Form.

Unit description

Students will be encouraged to develop and facilitate individual approaches to their work and employ appropriate terminology. They will extend their practical skills and broaden their knowledge of fashion and textiles techniques. Students will create relevant production pieces. In this unit students will learn the art of creating an original pattern and begin to understand how products fit the human body.

In this unit students will explore the following essential questions:

• What role do patterns play in influencing the final finish and fit of a product?
• What is the relationship between designer and client in the relationship to the product?

• Product(s) - A range of appropriate products
• Evaluation - Students evaluate their products through discussion and debriefing
