Unit description

Stories can open up a whole new world for an audience. This unit will explore stories from around the world.

The unit introduces students to short stories, poetry, novels, film and non-fiction work by authors from other countries, and stories that explore the experience of other cultures in Australia. Students are encouraged to appreciate the way culture and experience shape our opinions, morals and our future. This unit reinforces and refines writing, speaking and reading skills.

Students will be called upon to respond creatively to some works but also to prepare logical and critical arguments about issues that arise from the literature studied.

Assessment

• Writing folio: written review, personal letter
• Logbook: reflective writing
• Oral presentation: response to an issue
