About the Learning Area

Physical Education offers educational experiences that will enrich and develop our students. The medium of expression we use to achieve this is human movement in all its varied forms, and allied aspects of health education; the physical aspect of Physical Education is employed to educate the whole child.

The broad Physical Education program offered at Carey presents a range of activities that demand imaginative and creative efforts while extending individual levels of fitness and skill. In addition, the program provides opportunities for spontaneity, freedom and enjoyment, as well as offering opportunities to respond to a challenge and be involved in the natural environment.

As an intrinsic part of the program students are required to present knowledge which will assist them to make informed decisions on and develop sound attitudes towards personal and community health.

At Year 10 level, Physical Education is part of the compulsory core curriculum for all students.  There is also the opportunity for Year 10 students to chose the semester length elective, Improving Sports Performance (ISP).  This course proivdes a good introduction for those students wishing to continue their studies in VCE Physical Education Units 1-4 at Years 11 and 12.

Our students have access to the very best in sporting facilities at the 14 hectare Carey Sports Complex, incorporating the Geoffrey Stevens Swimming Pool, the Gerard Cramer Physical Education Centre and excellent playing fields.
