About the Learning Area
In the Senior School Drama is offered as a semester elective to Year 10 students. This subject can lead to VCE Theatre Studies Units 1-4 or IB Theatre at Years 11 and 12.
Students studying VCE Theatre Studies have enjoyed great success over many years with a number of students achieving recognition by VCAA for their performance in the Monologue examination. Students regularly achieve high study scores.
Year 10 Drama and VCE Theatre Studies build on work covered in Years 7-9 (however there are no prerequisites for study of these subjects).
Both courses allow the teacher and students the opportunity to view a large number of theatrical performances, engage in critical thinking and develop performance and stagecraft to higher levels.
IB Theatre is offered as a Group Six subject in the International Baccalaureate Diploma. This rigorous course is very popular with students and provides opportunities to experience and experiment with theatrical practices and styles from around the globe. Run over the two years this dynamic course challenges, excites and stimulates the students. The academic results acheived are outstanding!
