Year 11 Outdoor Education Leadership

Other Curriculum  >  Year 11 Outdoor Education Leadership

Year 11 students may attend a three day Leadership Training Camp at Toonallook. After completing the camp students can apply to assist as a leader on a Year 5 or Year 6 camp at Toonallook or a Year 8 camp at Hattah/Kulkyne National Park. This is the final chance to be involved in the Carey Outdoor Education program and extends the opportunity to ‘put back in’ to the program as well as to continue a journey of learning and growing. Attendance on the Leadership Training Camp does not guarantee a position as a leader. Activities on Leadership Training include:

  • Scenarios
  • Tent pitching
  • Navigation
  • Bush cooking
  • 1st Aid
  • Trangia stove use
  • Roles explanation
  • Leadership styles

Assessment

Reports are written on students who assist as a leader on a Year 5, Year 6 or Year 8 camp. The reports comprise a criteria based checklist and a written comment based on observation of all aspects of their participation throughout the program.
