Carey is a member of the Inner Melbourne VET Cluster (IMVC) of schools, which allows students from schools within the cluster to undertake VET studies as part of their VCE program.
A VET study will normally involve a two year training program, during which the students complete a nationally recognised vocational qualification (e.g. Certificate II in Hospitality Operations) in addition to their other VCE studies. VET studies offered by the IMVC may also contribute to the calculation of a student's ENTER score.
The programs are delivered at a number of venues in the Inner Melbourne area. A fee for service may be charged if students choose to undertake these programs in addition to the normal course load at Carey. Costs will vary according to the VET program selected. As timetabling conflicts will occur with normal curriculum offerings at Carey, students will need to discuss the ramifications of undertaking a VET study with the VCE or IB Co-ordinators.
Programs offered through the cluster include the following:
- Certificate II: Broadcasting
- Certificate II: Community Recreation
- Certificate II: Concept Development for Clothing Products
- Certificate II: Engineering Studies
- Certificate II: Furnishings
- Certificate II: Hospitality
- Certificate II: Information Technology
- Certificate II: Make-Up Artistry
- Certificate III: Multimedia
- Certificate III: Music Industry (Performance)
- Certificate III: Music Industry (Technical Production)
The Inner Melbourne VET cluster produces a booklet outlining each program. Interested students can collect a copy from the VET Co-ordinator, Dr Julie Weatherbee.
Applications
Any students interested in the VET options offered through the VET cluster should register their interest on their Subject Selection form, and submit a separate application to the VET Co-ordinator. Application forms will be available from the VET Co-ordinator in Term 3, and must be submitted to the Co-ordinator by the date on which subject selection forms are due. Places are not guaranteed, and perference is normally given to those students who apply first.
