Geography

Common Study

Unit description

Year 7 students begin their study of Geography by developing an understanding of mapping skills such as scale, direction, legends, grid references, latitude and longitude. The Atlas, a key reference, is used to facilitate geographical knowledge of these skills. Students will be exposed to the six environments in which they will participate during Term 3; the environments include rivers, coasts, mountains, islands, peninsulas and forests. While studying these environments, students will learn not only the geographic characteristics which are unique to each of these areas but will learn to apply mapping skills in a very practical way. Importantly, students will briefly look into some of the issues which each environment is facing today.
