International Students FAQs

At what year levels do you accept International Students?
Carey accepts international student applications for entry to Senior School (Year 10-12) only.

What is the prerequisite to enrol at Carey?
The minimum requirement for enrolment at Carey is that students must have completed a Middle School certificate (Year 9) and obtained a result of at least 75% for English language studies taken in Years 7 to 9. Carey prefers students to sit an Australian Educational Assessment Services (AEAS) test, which assesses language proficiency and recommends the length of the intensive English program necessary on arrival.

What is the enrolment procedure?
You will need to complete an Application for Enrolment and send it to us with a copy of the student’s birth certificate or passport, copies of the school reports and the AEAS results. If the School accepts your application, you will be sent a letter of offer. The offer letter provides details of payments required and documents that will need to be completed and provided. When we have received the payment and completed documents, we will issue an Overseas Student Confirmation of Enrolment. The earlier we receive your application, the better; by November our classes can be full.

Do students need to sit an IELTS test before applying to Carey?
Students are not required to sit an IELTS test before applying to Carey, but they are required to sit an AEAS test which will indicate the number of weeks they will need to study in an intensive English program.

Does Carey offer an Intensive English Program?
Carey does not offer an intensive English program. We are, however, happy to recommend suitable language schools. For more information, please contact the Registrar: admissions@carey.com.au

How many International Students do you have at the school?
There are approximately 60 international students at Carey. These students are spread over Years 10, 11 and 12.

Do you have boarding facilities?
No, we do not have boarding facilities. We have a Home Stay Co-ordinator who can organise accommodation. Home Stay accommodation is with Australian families in close proximity to the School. All Home Stay families are carefully chosen and approved by the School. Our Home Stay Co-ordinator also visits Home Stay families regularly to ensure our students are happy and flourishing.
