The school year is drawing to an end and most students have by now completed their examinations. We have been extremely pleased by the way in which they have conducted themselves during the examination period.

It is compulsory for all Senior School students to attend Speech Night on 26 November at Hamer Hall, commencing at 7.30pm. As always, it promises to be an exciting night and is a great way to celebrate student achievements this year at Carey.

Head of Senior School

Deputy Head of the Senior School - Curriculum

I am pleased to announce that Simon Vanderkelen has been appointed to the role of Deputy Head of the Senior School - Curriculum from the start of the 2009 school year. Simon is currently Head of the International Baccalaureate Program at St Leonard’s College and brings to the role a wealth of curriculum leadership and experience. I look forward to introducing Simon to parents and students next year.

Examination feedback, subject changes and transition classes

Examination feedback is an important part of completing study in a subject. In addition to indicating content areas which may need revising over the vacation, examination feedback provides students with an opportunity to reflect on preparation and consider ways to refine preparation and technique. It may also prompt a revision of subjects chosen for next year.

Students considering changing subjects should discuss this with their current teacher/s, Mentor, Careers Counsellor and myself. Application forms to change subject are available from Senior School Administration and require the signature of a parent, Mentor, Careers Counsellor, Head of Learning for the new subject and VCE Coordinator. Students are also asked to complete the course planner for school and tertiary goals (on the back of the application form) before submitting the completed form. Note: subject changes are dependent upon class sizes and the 2009 timetable blocking which has been constructed on the basis of subject selections submitted in Term3.

Transition classes for Year 11 and Year 12 2009 run from Friday 28 November until Friday 5 December. During these classes students will begin study of their 2009 subjects and be set work for the vacation.

Please feel free to contact me on 9816 1238 or graeme.young@carey.com.au should you ever need clarification of the detail within the Handbook, or for any VCE related queries or issues which may arise during the year.
