MIDDLE SCHOOL MUSIC
TOUR – ‘RIVER STORY’
Sincere congratulations to the wonderful 61 Middle School students
who were involved in the 2008 Middle School Music Tour. In four
days they presented their 75 minute show ‘River Story’ 14 times in Bendigo, Castlemaine, Kyabram, Kerang, Deniliquin,
Barham and Echuca. The tour program is a very demanding one with
very little ‘down’ time. The rigors of unloading the
buses, setting up instruments, equipment and props, tuning up, getting
into costume, performing, packing everything up, travelling and
doing it all again .. and again.. demands energy, focus, commitment
and teamwork. It is no holiday! The reward is a fantastic growth
in performance skills and many new friendships, as well as knowing
that you bring a lot of pleasure to our country communities.
Many thanks to Jason Digby, Kerry Ang, Laura Haywood, Claire Murray,
Graeme Lowe (Panorama) and Jane Penhallurick (drama rehearsals).
Martin Arnold,
Head of Middle School Music

We usually run two jazz groups in Middle School. The Ellington band
is for experienced jazz players, and the Goodman ensemble is for
less experienced players. Both groups rehearse one lunchtime each
week, and perform several times a year. The usual line up is alto
sax, tenor sax, bari sax, trumpet, trombone and a rhythm section
consisting of piano, bass drums and guitar. However we do often
have other instruments such as flute, clarinet, tuba, and a vocalist.
Over the next 2 weeks we will be forming the jazz ensembles for
2009. There will be a couple of lunchtime tryout sessions. Any student
interested in playing in one of these groups is welcome to register
their interest with me, either by the sheet outside M21 or by email.
