Last week we conducted our Prep Orientation morning with more than 80 parents and their 4 and 5 year olds attending. The morning was a wonderful occasion all round with the new "Preppies" having an opportunity to get used to their new rooms and teachers prior to starting next year. It was also a very useful time for the parents to hear a bit more about what is in store for their children and them and also to meet other parents about to embark on the same journey which will last for the next 13 years. I spoke about my thoughts on starting school and, in particular, on the partnership that we all begin when we first send our children to school. As I have mentioned in this newsletter previously, the success of this partnership has a direct influence on how well our children travel on that journey. One of the most important aspects of the child/parent/teacher partnership is trust and communication. I have greatly appreciated the trust that so many of you have given me and the faith that you have placed in the School. Through open lines of communication the sense of trust and faith can only be enhanced.

CLOSA Parents

Robinson River

We are looking for parents who have moved to Carey from overseas and interstate to help establish CLOSA Parents. Starting in Term 1 2009, we aim to offer activities which reflect our diverse backgrounds and to offer support to parents new to Melbourne. For more information please contact:
Maria Smith and Jenny Littlewood by emailing closaparents@carey.com.au

Robinson River students are currently preparing to have a Christmas concert this year and Helen Webber, the school principal, was hoping the Carey community would be able to send up some simple white coloured T-shirts and black knee length shorts for the Year 5/6 component of their concert. Only 8 sets are required and we would be very grateful if any families who may have some old t-shirts and shorts of this kind (that would fit Years 5/6 students) would be able to donate them to the school. If you think you can help could you please email jskew@carey.com.au and we will co-ordinate the collection.

Junior School House Athletics Day: Friday 21 November

All parents are invited to this Friday’s House Athletics Carnival at Carey Bulleen. This is one of the biggest community events on the Junior School Calendar. Please note the following details:

Children may wear Carey House sports uniform to and from School on the day.

Upper School (Years 3-6): Events commence at approximately 9.15am.

Lower School (Prep - Year 2): Events commence at approximately 10.15am and conclude at 12.30pm.  Lower School will return to Kew at approximately 2.00pm.

The Carnival will conclude for Years 3-6 at approximately 2.45pm, with the presentation to follow. Year 3-6 children will return to the Junior School by approximately 3.15pm.

Upper School students will sit together in the grandstand with their House.  Lower School students will sit in class groups on Dunshea Oval.  Marquees will be in place for protection from the sun.

As this is our Aths carnival and all students are being physically active, can I ask that a healthy, energetic lunch including a water bottle be packed for your children?
This is a great opportunity for us to promote healthy eating within our School and for our kids.

*Refreshments will be available for parents at the Bulleen Canteen and from the JSPA tents throughout the day.  These refreshments are available to parents only.

*IMPORTANT: Dismissal arrangements:

For safety reasons, all children will return to the Junior School on buses.  There will be no pick ups from Bulleen on this day.  Keeping track of and ensuring the safe whereabouts of the children is our number one priority. All children will be dismissed from Kew at the normal time.  .

We are looking forward to seeing many parents supporting this important Junior School community day.

Jon Parks, Head of Jnr Phys Ed/Sport
