Class Selections for 2009
I would like to thank all parents who have provided me with their requests for class placements next year. I have collated all of these and they will be given every consideration as our teachers develop the classes for 2009. Recently we have also been asking the children to tell us who they would like to be with and who they think that they may not work as well with. Once we have all this information our teachers will work on creating the classes for next year. This is a painstaking and time consuming process as we need to consider what parents have requested, what the children think and also the great wealth of knowledge that the teachers themselves have about children in their care. The children will be told their new classes and teachers on the morning of our transition day and we will be sending home notes to all families with the classes for that year level published on them. I am told that there have been concerns from parents in the past over class placements once they are published with some parents wanting changes made. I need to strongly point out that this is extremely problematic and something that I will be very firmly opposed to. We have sought your input into this process already and we will do all we can to meet those requests. I believe that it would be unfair and unreasonable for us to then allow for more input and changes once we have announced classes as it often means moving several other children as well. I urge you to have faith in the judgment of the people who have worked with your children throughout the year and that you trust us to do the best possible job of creating these classes. The process will have been very thorough and there should be no reason for anyone to wish to have changes made once classes are announced.

I am very pleased and proud to announce that the total raised by the children of the Carey Junior Schools for the World Vision 40 Hour Famine was just over $22,000. This is a fabulous effort and I would like to thank our Carey Junior School Kew Community for their tremendous support for this most worthwhile cause. Money like this will make a huge difference to the work of World Vision in the slums of India working with children forced into labour situations to support their families – so on behalf of those children – THANK YOU!

JUNIOR SCHOOL HOUSE ATHLETICS DAY: FRIDAY 14 NOVEMBER

All parents are invited to Friday’s House Athletics Carnival at Carey Bulleen. This is one of the biggest community events on the Junior School Calendar. Please note the following details: Children may wear Carey House sports uniform to and from school on the day.

Upper School (Years 3-6): Buses depart from the Junior School at 8.40am. Events commence at approximately 9.15am.

Lower School (Prep-Year 2): Buses depart from the Junior School at 9.30am. Events commence at approximately 10.15am and conclude at 12.30pm. Lower school will return to Kew at approximately 2.00pm.

The Carnival will conclude for Years 3-6 at approximately 2.45pm, with the presentation to follow. The children will return to the Junior School by approximately 3.15pm.

Upper School students will sit together in the grandstand with their House. Lower School students will sit in class groups on Dunshea Oval. Marquees will be in place for protection from the sun.

Lunch arrangements:
As this is our Athletics carnival and all students are being physically active, can I ask that a healthy, energetic lunch including a water bottle be packed for your children?

This is a great opportunity for us to promote healthy eating within our School and for our kids.

Refreshments will be available for parents at the Bulleen Canteen and from the JSPA tents throughout the day. These refreshments are available to parents only.

Dismissal arrangements:
For safety reasons, all children will return to the Junior School on buses. There will be no pick ups from Bulleen on this day. Keeping track of and ensuring the safe whereabouts of the children is our number one priority. All children will be dismissed from Kew at the normal time.

We are looking forward to seeing many parents supporting this important Junior School community day.
