In recent years Carey has established a special relationship with a small, remote Aboriginal community of about 250 people at Robinson River in the Northern Territory.
The Carey end of the relationship initially involved only students in the Junior School Kew. The students collected books and the School donated computer equipment which was air lifted, courtesy Qantas, to the Robinson River School.
For the past two years Carey and Robinson River have taken part in an exchange in which students from each school visit the other for a week.
In 2007 we expanded the relationship and, in consultation with the NT Education Department, will place a Carey teacher in the Robinson River School. Not only is Robinson River remote, it is also inaccessible for part of the year during the rainy season, so our aim is for the Carey teacher to be in the community for Terms 2 and 3. In conjunction with the NAB, and with their generous financial support, we have been able to rent a fully furnished NT Health Department house at Robinson River this year.
