Nixon to speak at Carey

Chief Commissioner Nixon to speak at Carey on why it’s never been so tough for teenagers.

It will be an honour for Carey’s Senior School to have as a guest speaker on 6 August the Victoria Police Chief Commissioner, Christine Nixon.

Ms Nixon’s topic, ‘The word on the street: it’s never been so tough for teenagers’, will address a number of serious issues confronting young people, including the need for them to accept responsibility for their own behaviour, driving, violence, drugs and alcohol, and their relationship with the police.

Ms Nixon has been invited to the School to participate in the Carey Speakers Program for students in Years 10, 11 and 12, in which prominent people address the students on issues of relevance to the students’ lives. She will speak for approximately half an hour before taking questions from the floor for another half an hour. Judging by the enthusiasm with which her visit is anticipated, Ms Nixon can expect the questions to be wide ranging and challenging from the 650 or so students who will comprise the audience.
