Year 12 perform “The Butterfly’s Evil Spell”
01 May 2008
Year 12 Theatre Studies perform “The Butterfly’s Evil Spell” by Gabriel Garcia Lorca.
The Butterfly’s Evil Spell tells the story of the cockroach, Boybeetle, who is handsome, passionate, idealistic and hopelessly in love with an injured butterfly who is temporarily stranded among other insects. It represents Lorca’s (Spain’s most successful dramatist) comic style and incorporates traditions of farce and puppet play to tell Boybeetle’s story and to comment on the universal nature of themes of love and frustration above all.
Year 12 Theatre Studies students learn the art of stagecraft, working collaboratively in order to realise the production of a play script.
Performance dates Wednesday 14 May, Thursday 15 May and Friday 16 May.
Memorial Great Hall, Carey. 7.30 pm.
