De Young Centre for Performing Arts to open on 13 March

28 Jan 2010

Visitors to Carey’s Open Day on Saturday 13 March between 1.30 and 4.00pm will have the opportunity to tour our brand new De Young Centre for Performing Arts. The building will be officially opened on the day by Professor David de Kretser, AC, Governor of Victoria.

The Centre will significantly enhance the School’s commitment to Music and Drama – aspects of our curricular and co-curricular programs that engage large numbers of students and which have earned us a justifiable reputation for excellence and diversity. It will complement areas currently used for the performing arts, such as the Memorial Great Hall and the Millikan Lecture Theatre.

Designed by award winning architects Gregory Burgess and Associates, the new building will combine practice spaces for music and drama tuition, an auditorium with a large performance stage and orchestra/band rehearsal space as well as storage areas and state-of-the-art sound and lighting equipment.
