Carey Donvale Making a Difference in Kenya.
29 Mar 2012
Carey Donvale students have been able to see the difference they can make in the lives of others through their ‘Kris Kringle for Kenya’ gifts purchased for Christmas last year. Donvale Year 4 teacher, Kathryn Mann, a regular volunteer at Mission in Action, Nakuru Baby Orphanage in Kenya took the generous donations from students and staff and on their behalf bought, packed and delivered a large number of Christmas gifts for needy families. These gifts included 300 food hampers (lasting a family about a month), 150 education packs, 200 pairs of school shoes (for children who would otherwise not have the opportunity to go to school), and 150 soccer balls for children to play with.
The Donvale students were able to see, not only their efforts through the photos and videos of their gifts being delivered to the children and families in Kenya, but also the difference in living standards. This acts as a constant reminder to be thinking of others and is a true reflection of our school's Christian ethos.
